Hi,
After planning this for a long time in the end I found the time to do the hike up the volcano in Colima. They have two vulcanos their. One active and inactive. I started the trip last saturday from Guadalajara. I read in the LP that the road up to the vulcano isnt very nice so I took the old Boche (volkswagen beatle) from my girlfriends father. Was a good idea. It takes about 1:45 hours to get to CD Guzman from Guadalajara. From their there is road up the mountain that takes you up to 3500 meter. Very bad road and saw many jeep kind of cars who had only traction on the front two wheels, having problems. This is why a beatle has no problems. Tracktion on the back wheels. From the bottom to the camping site at 3500 meter it is 17 kilometers. This takes you at least 45 minutes. Drive slow!!. The entrens fee is 10 pesos. Just had one tiny problem. Forgot to check the oil and a kilometer befor the top we got stuck. We walked the last kilometer and left the beatle. Camping site is nice not to big but enough space for some 10 tents and a nice campfire. Be aware that it gets very cold at this hights. Take a good sleepingbag and preferable an extra blanket. From the camping site it is a 3 hours hike up to the microwave site. This is 1,5 hour from the top. We started hiking the next day in the morning. We made slightly mistake with the route. Their are several hiking routes and not all go to the top. We made mistake and took an other route which didnt end up at the top. Was a really nice route which took me up an other high mountain with a lovely view. We were quite nackerd and didnt want to do the other route as well. Was a real nice experience and I defenitly getting back to do it again. We published some photo´s on our website. You can have a look at it at the following address. National park vulcano Nevado in Colima When we got back from the trip start asking people if they had some oil for the car. One guy stoped and opened his trunk filled with boxes with bottles of oil. Never been so lucky. He just gave me two bottles and we were of again. It is defenitly a trip to do. From GDL you can take a bus to CD de Guzman or if you go by car be aware that you also have to pay toll which is 86 pesos one way. Wouter Learn Spanish in Mexico |
