I am going to Mexico and will visit the city of Morelia. I heard the taxis in Mexico city are very dangerous. I would like to know if it would be safe to take taxis in the city of Morelia ( 4 hours west of Mexico City). Also how dangerous is it in Mexico city? Thanks

Mexico City is not my strongest suit, but I will try to help, based on what I do know. Hopefully you are going to go by bus to Morelia.

My understanding is that official taxis are not "dangerous" in Mexico City. Where in the world did you read this? Maybe you misread something. There is a certain amount of unrest there, but I doubt it is directed against tourists.

Getting into taxis can be dangerous to your budget if you don't agree on a price ahead of time. Morelia will be the same.

DO be careful, it is NOT ok to jump into any old taxi in Mexico city.
There is another post here that explains exactly which ones are ok, but it's basically the SITIO ones you should go for, don't just randomly hail a cab if you are nervous. Don't get in if you get a bad feeling about the driver.
I lived in the D.F. for nearly 5 years and have friends who still live there and they would tell you the same thing. It's not a terrifying place, but take care and keep your eyes open and take the advice the guides give you.
You may have no trouble at all, but if you are careless you could be the one person who does run into trouble. Use your head and be careful. Diviertete!
