Never did message board, so hope this is right! I have found a travel agent in CR that I want to book, land only. They want me to FAX a copy of both sides of my credit card. What??? This does not sound legitimate to me. Fax is not safe. Is this common? It's the second travel company that has expected that. Need info fast, please, if you have ever heard of this practice. Thank you!

If a person wants to get one of the good consolidator prices with MENA Tours of Chicago o fax that, a copy of your driver's license and a signed statement approving the specific purchase. It's annoying, but okay when price is right.

However, it sounds a bit cheeky for an agency that is probably adding a hefty surcharge to do what you could do yourself once you get down there to ask to see your credit card first. Why are you looking to get taken with a land package anyway?

Okay, that makes sense. I wish I could advise as to another agency, but my main fascination lies a bit further to the north. The wish to see your credit card is not unique and I do think it is best to do travel arrangements with local companies, so that all your money stays in the local economy.

If this company seems like a good one and the prices seem all right, you might see what trade organizations they are associated with and consider using them. Remember that if you get ripped off while using a credit card with them, you just protest it and are off the hook.

Good luck!
