I am planning a trip to central america later this year and am looking for an intensive spanish course, potentially in Costa Rica but plans are fluid. If anyone has studied there I would appreciate any advice you could give regarding good schools/schools and operators to avoid etc.
Equally, if you have studied elsewhere in C.A and want to recommend it, then i would love to hear about alternatives, pros and cons.
I haven't been in a Spanish class in quite a few years, but if I wanted to take one I would check www.123teachme.com by location for price ranges, quality and level of instruction.
What you need to do is to decide where you want to go and then find some school there. There are school tourist meccas like Antigua or Xela in Guatemala. There are also smaller cities with schools where you would not meet so many Anglophones and you might learn more.
Whatever you do, only pay by the week. It is no problem extend a one-on-one course, but a refund would be unlikely if you decide you don't like the school/locale/whatever.
i really liked montana linda in orosi, which is about 1 1/2 hours outside of san jose. i had one on one classes, i stayed with a host family, although you can stay in the dorm too, and it is really cheap. the staff was really helpful, the teachers are all native speakers and have been teaching for a long time, and the class was geared to my needs and wants. check them out at www.montanalinda.com.
Not really objective but we have a spanish school in Guadalajara, Mexico. If you are intrested just have a look at our website. If you need any more information just send me an email. I have traveled a lot in Mexico and can give you some advice if you need it.
