I am currently volunteering in San Ignacio, Belize and am hoping to travel to Tikal, Antigua and Lago de Atitlan starting in mid to late February and then return to Belize in March...as of right now, am traveling alone, but would be happy to find others heading this direction to travel with at any point along the way.
I will be traveling in the opposite direction about the same time as you. Sorry.
However,you are likely to meet people along the way. Even if you are a bit shy, the second time you bump into a person or couple is a reasonable time to chat. You have something in common in itinerary.
Quite often I travel alone. My wife prefers to stay out of Maya lands and that is how it goes. Other than that, I consider her almost ideal. Some of my best trips have been alone.
If you are alone, you just need to be more careful. There is no one else watching out for you. Oddly, the biggest danger from this may be that if you leave something behind, no one may warn you. On the other hand, they might. Many people along the way will be honest.
