Rough Guide recommends booking accommodation well in advance for February. Is it realistic to do an unbooked trip at this time of year? Any suggestions for suitable destinations appreciated.

We went to CR for three weeks in 2003. We had some accom booked in advance but took a chance for the 3rd week and had no problems at all. We stayed in some lovely places at great prices.

As most prices are quoted in US$ then with current rates you might get some very good value at the moment, so advance booking might be the smart thing to do.
