Sofia, do you really have a wife? No problema, but in the other forum where I saw this, the writer's name sounded like it could be male. Now I am even more convinced that you should have reported the crime back in Flores, rather than have belatedly started out on a mission on the Internet. I can hgardly wait for the youtube version.
I reply here as I did there to this identical post: ____________________________________ Slums in Guatemala can be quite dangerous, but the police and the government take crime against tourists seriously and Tikal is the mother lode in tourism dollars. Authorities would take a dim view of any miscreants there, especially those who are identifiable. I hope to see this as a learning experience for you, but especially for others. When someone leaves anything of value behind in any hotel, it would be smarter to lock it inside whatever you leave it in. Face it, hotel thefts by staff almost never involve slashing to get into something or disappearing with an entire item of luggage, so a locked piece of luggage is pretty good, though certainly not foolproof. If there is a problem locking that suitcase, your wife should get a pack and a couple small combination locks. It would also be smart to get your wife a travelers wallet that hangs inside her pants for carrying money and credit cards. You should really have reported this, rather than fleeing the country. |
