I am going to drive from Salvador Brazil, to Lima, Peru early next year. I was thinking of working my way down the Brazilian coast to Rio and Sao Paulo. Then to Curitiba and across to Foz de Iguaçu. Then I want to take the road either through northern Argentina coming up into Bolivia close to Uyuni, or through Paraguay to Santa Cruz, Bolivia and up. Finaly I want to cross the border to Peru at Lake Titicaca and come into Lima via Puno, Cuzco, and Machu Pichu.
Apart from the obvious things like the Iguaçu falls and Salar de Uyuni, has anybody got any tips about things that should not be missed? Anyone know what know that latest on the road conditions for the Asuncion – Santa Cruz stretch is like? Will it be passable in January/February? Also, does any one know whether I need to get a Carnet de Passage for Bolivia. My Jeep is registered in California, and I know that going to Bolivia can be a problem. Has any one done it recently? I am still looking for a companion to accompany me and one other person on this adventure. If this kind of trip sounds right up your street send me an email. HMShunkydory@yahoo.com It is a red jeep Cherokee, plenty of space, I am relaxed about the itinerary, so send me your suggestions. I also speak fluent Portuguese and good Spanish, so its not a problem if you dont know the language. Cheers Graham |
