INFORMATION FOR ANYONE WANTING TO TREK IN THE HUARAZ AREA.
I WAS THERE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND WAS FORTUNATE TO FIND THE BEST GUIDE IN TOWN. HONEST, REASONABLY GOOD ENGLISH AND VERY KNOWLEDGABLE. I KEEP IN TOUCH WITH VICTOR AND WHEN I GO TO HUARAZ AGAIN WILL CERTAINLY USE HIS SERVICES.
I WANT TO DO MY OLD FREIND A FAVOUR SO I AM PUTTING HIS E-MAIL ADDRESS UP HERE. victorjht@yahoo.com
IF YOU WRITE TO HIM IN ENGLISH TRY NOT TO BE TOO COMPLICATED.

HUARAZ HAS AN ENORMOUS NUMBER OF AGENCIES TO CHOOSE FROM AND THERE ARE NEW OPERATIONS SETTING UP EVERY WEEK. OBVIOUSLY STANDARDS VARY, AS WITH ANYTHING, AND IT CAN BE ONLY A MATTER OF 'POT LUCK' THAT GETS YOU A GOOD SERVICE. A FEW OF THE WORSE AGENCIES REGULARLY DON'T PAY THE MULETEERS AND DON'T PROVIDE THEM WITH ADEQUATE FOOD. MANY OF THESE GUYS ARE GRINDINGLY POOR AND HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO ACCEPT THE CONDITIONS OFFERED BY THE AGENCIES.
IF YOU CONTACT VICTOR YOU CAN BE SURE THAT THE RIGHT AMMOUNT OF WHAT YOU PAY WILL GO TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING THE WORK.

victorjht@yahoo.com

GOOD LUCK
PS THE CORDILLERA HUAYHUASH ISHIS SPECIALITY AND ALSO INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL

An ardent warning: Do not buy tours from people at the airport or on the street in Manaus. Not only are you likely to get ripped off, you will never get your money back. The best guides are hired by the best companies; the best shysters don’t work for the best companies. If you don’t want to reserve tour before arriving and want to book a tour use a reputable registered agency. The offices of tour companies are relatively easy to find.

to recommend a good agency in huaraz is not easy. most of them operate in the same way: they get you the pay the highest amount of money for the tour and offer you the most basic service. if you are lucky you have a good guide, and the beauty of the trek will certainly make up for all the organisational shit...

anyway, i know two good guys who are just starting up their office but have a vast experience in trekking, ice and rock climbing, canyoning, ...

at the moment you can reach them easiest by e-mail:
huayhuashexplorer@hotmail.com (dino or josé)
or drop by their office which is located on av. confraternidad int. oeste (600) behind hostal tambo

greetz, belle

Hi!
I work at a reliable tour agency in Peru!
Take a look at our website: www.andex-adventure.com
We can organize trips all over South America!
Best regards,
Isabel

Leap Local is a free website we have started for travellers to recommend local guides and other services amongst each other. Please post recommendations you may have and go there to find local guides, of which there are many in Peru.

I have posted your recommendation of Victor, whom I am in touch with and have found recommended in other places on

I have to fully agree with paul on this one, he's right about the tours at the airport - total rip off!
