Just returned today from Quito. Had the unfortunate experience of staying at Hotel Quito on Gonzalez Suarez. Strongly recommend to stay away. Thought it would be a bit of a splurg. Turned out to be a disaster. Newly remodeling, badly managed and run. They will take your money but will not provide the service - almost like theft. This hotel is unworthy of the 'Luxury" category.

They are pretty bad. To avoid this kind of experiences you should always check with a local travel agency that has been recommended to you.
Also another consideration is that "luxury" in a less developed country means probably 2 or 3 stars of a developed country. The good thing about South America is that the low-end hotels ($5-$20 a day) are really nice in comparisson to the European hostels. gratzi!
