A truly dumpy hotel, where we had the following bad experience.

Our stay had been arranged by the very wonderful folks at Darwin Expeditions (whose excursions are fantastic, and worth every centavo). However, the hotel had not warned Darwin Expeditions when they made the reservation, nor did they warn us when we checked in (!) that on that very evening, beginning at midnight, they were having a well-amplified big band concert in their bar. The distance from the nearest musician in the band to the door of our room was approximately twenty meters, with no intervening wall or door to muffle the sound. Could not even hear the t.v., much less have a prayer of sleeping, yet we had to be up and ready to meet the folks from Darwin at 8 a.m.! Complaints were met with rude indifference by the management. Finally, at 3:30 a.m., we switched hotels (to the very nice Isla Chaffers, which would have been a nicer choice even absent the band), but not in time to get anything like enough sleep...

These folks need to decide whether they are a hotel or a nightclub. They can't have it both ways.
