Does anyone have any recommendations for day trips in Santiago, Chile? I am arriving there in 3 days and wondering if anyone can give me an idea for city tours, etc? Plus any recommendations on hostals? Safe area.

Hi I recommended a Santiago city tour in bicycles, call "LA BICICLETA VERDE". Is very funny and safe with English-Spanish tour guides. You will learn a lot about the city and the curious places of Santiago, about the Chilean citizens, culture, history including political history about Pinochet. And the best is cheap, you can meet interesting people from Santiago and around the world and they provide you the bikes.
Also I can recommend Atacama Hostel, is one of the best hostels in Santiago de Chile. Very clean, cheap, safe and with a really good location.

To get out of Santiago for a day or so it is probably best to take a bus ( Chile Buses). There are four terminals in Santiago, so make sure you go to the correct one according to your destination...

Hey RoseMarie,
Thanks for the tips on La Bicicleta Verde. I did both tours with them just last week. I highly recommend them. www.labicicletaverde.com www.labicicletaverde.com

Also check out www.chipsites.com for good information! I did a human rights tour with them and read their online newspaper everyday at www.santiagotimes.cl everyday.

Great time in Santiago!!!! Definitely underrated!!!

La Bicicleta Verde rents bikes too!!! I recommend maybe taking their half day tour in the morning and then renting the bike for the afternoon.

My wife & I just got back from Chile & did several tours, but our favorite was: http://www.labicicletaverde.com/
It was cheap, it was fun, we learned a lot, the pace was easy (for us non-bikers) & we had a great English speaking guide. We heard from the guide that they have walking tours too, but didn't have time to get it in.

Howdy All,

My boyfriend and I just did a whirlwind trip around South America. I had read that 2 days was plenty time to see Santiago, Chile.

I must say that La Bicicleta Verde tour made those two days more than worth it.

We initially just signed up for the afternoon tour. Our TWO guides were great and informative. The tour completely safe.

We went with another couple, I think from Australia, and a young student from Brazil.

The next day, we took the other tour that they offer in the morning. Different guide and completely different route and information. My boyfriend preferred the afternoon tour as it was a bit more political and historical, although I did love the extra stops throughout the parks, my favorite was the morning tour, as we traveled into the fresh fruit and veggie market. That was an experience!

Honestly, don't leave Santiago until you do the Green Bike Tour.

Check out La Bicicleta Verde www.labicicletaverde.com

Ahh, I almost forgot to mention. I called their phone number from the states and made the reservation. They told me that reservations are recommended as tours do fill up especially on weekends.

If you need any other tips around Santiago or for a month long trip in South America, just write to me directly. Thanks to all of you on the forum who helped us choose our tours and destinations.

This looks great. I signed up for their morning tour and their evening tour in July. I will post when I get back from the South!
