I am currently planing a trip to Peru for the begining of December. My traveling companion would like us to spend a day or two relaxing near some sand. I have done a little researching and it seems that the area south of Lima (Pucusana, Santa Maria, Asia) are some of the best beaches Peru has to offer.

Does any one have any advise as to if this is correct, any accomodations recomendations?

Thanks,

Bryan

I've been to two of the beaches south Of Lima (El Silencio was one, can't recall the name of the other) and wasn't too impressed. They're an experience when they're packed but scenically they're not very attractive, and the water had lots of rubbish floating around in it. There are nicer places - Mollendo in the South, Huanchaco near Trujillo in the north, Iquique in N Chile.

Punta Hermosa is quite a nice beach about 20kms or so from Lima. Popular with young Limenos especially surfers. It will be extremely busy in December (summer down there) though and there aren't that many places to stay so perhaps try and book somewhere. Peru's forte is deserts and mountains not beaches, although Mancora right up near Tumbes is lovely.

Buen viaje!
