Hi,
We are planning a trip of three and half weeks to Peru and Bolivia in September. We are a family of 2 grown up children(15 and 22) who will drag the old folks around(57and 60). We are unspoiled backpacker type travelers and have holidayed through parts of Asia in the last few (30) years. We will fly into Lima and fly out of La Paz. In Peru the places we are planning on visiting are Paracas, Ica, Arequipa and Colca canyon, Cusco and its surroundings and Lake Titicaca. From here to La Paz and then to the salt flats near Uyuni. Back to La Paz and home. I would appreciate advice as to any other places we should visit and the best route we should take to fit it all in. We would prefer to fly or train when possible as apposed to very long bus trips. All information both detailed and general would be gladly received. Thank you in advance, Brian |

OLIVER'S TRAVELS PUB - WARNING - DO NOT GO THERE!
This had to be the WORST place I have ever been to, and I have travelled all over the world. "Oliver", the dodgy pub owner was a rude, insulting drunk. We were a group of 20 people. We all ordered 2 course meals, and drinks but after we had paid he came and told us we had given him a sh!t tip, and he asked for more (in his own words)! This was after waiting for over an hour for our meals, having the desert come out before the main course. Getting 4 of our meals wrong! He is a religious and racist bigot - just take a look at his flyers! He asked out tour leader if we were Mormons because he said we were not drinking enough alcohol, he also stated if we were Jehovah's Witnesses, we would be thrown out immediately as he couldn't stand them! The service was atrocious, and the food mediocre. DO NOT GO HERE! |

Hi guys,
Big area, little time. Lima is not a highlight of Peru - regardless of what the locals may say - get in and out asap and hit the other spots. Save some by not bothering with Colca Cnayon - three days to see a condor or two may be worth it if you into the bird spotting, but otherwise the trip is rather bumpy and the accommodation often poor. Arequipa is an excellent place and should not be missed, so too is Ica and the surrounding sand dunes - take the crazy buggy ride! Also make sure you give yourselves time to get used to the changes in altitude! Re Salt flats - DO NOT MISS A VISIT TO THE TRAIN GRAVEYARD! Good luck |

In Bolivia I would advise to go to:
La Paz + Tiahuanacu Coroico (in the YUngas region, a rainforest region near La Paz. Do not drive yourselves and hire an experienced driver, one recommended by a guide). Salar de Uyuni (salt flats) Potosi (daytrip from Sucre) + Sucre (about 2-3 days should be enough). Chiquitos Jesuit Missions near Santa Cruz Pantanal (Amazon region) |
