Hi,
My wife and I are planning a 23 day trip to Rio de Janeiro and Argentina towards the end of September. We have traveled widely in Asia, Europe and North America but this is our first trip to South America. I would appreciate any help or suggestions regarding our very tentative itinerary. We are looking to see places, people and things that are more or less unique to this part of the world. Our plan at present is as follows:-
Arrive Rio de Janeiro for 3 or 4 days
Fly to Iguaçu falls for 2 or 3 days
Fly to Buenos Aires for 3-5 days
Fly to the Valdes Peninsula for 2 days
Fly to Califate to see the glaciers ? days
Fly to Ushuaia ? days
Back to Buenos and home

Please feel free to criticize and suggest, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Brian

I would definitely make Iguazu a 2-day stop. The waterfalls are amazing, but once you've seen them you're not left with a lot to do. There ARE some other things you can do if you're there (nature hikes, etc.), but I would say they're not reasons to go in themselves.

I would lean toward the 5-day end for the Buenos Aires leg. Of course, this depends a bit on how much you like urban areas. But there's definitely enough to see and do there to fill your time.

Calafate and Ushuaia can probably do with two days each.

Once you get to booking your flight, you might find that plane or bus schedules mean you have to spend a little more or a little less time in each place in order to fit everything together.

But this would be my starting point, if it were me.

if you really want to get the feel of argentina and meet the locals than take the bus. its how most argentinians tend to travel. you may need to cut down on the number of places you include on your itinerary. or hire a car so you can stop over at road side bars and motels. remember argentina and brazil are big countries so if you prefer to see lots then flying is the answer.
