If you are traveling in northern peru, and are in the trujillo area, i highly suggest stopping by Otra Cosa. It is a very hip vegetarian restaraunt located in the small fishing village of huanchaco, approximately 10 km west of trujillo. The village itself has a very low key vibe and is full of experienced fishermen and surfers. The vegetarian restaraunt "otra Cosa" is located about a half mile north of the pier. You can't miss it, just look for the bright welcoming colors of yellows, and oranges. The restaurant is owned and operated by a lovely dutch couple...Peter and Janneke, who are both very welcoming, and aside from opening up one of the coolest spaces i've ever been to, they've started a volunteer agency. Travelers from all over the world are welcome to volunteer at the actual restaraunt, working in the kitchen, and/or as a server. You can also volunteer at a couple of local orphanages, a language school (located behind the restaraunt) or some organic coffee farms! The food here is incredible and the menu has a wide variety of dishes. The "plato del dia" is always a wise choice with great proportions at an even better price. They also have a wonderful spin on falafels. They also have a BOMB apple pie! that is frequently used as a wager on bets durring world cup games among the volunteers there. Complete with a wonderful terrace over looking the pacific ocean, a mini cine with a great selection of movies to view upon request and an awesome outdoor lounge. All in all this is a great place to chill out, eat, meet other travelers and locals, and feel like you found a home away from home. I highly suggest anyone in the area searching this place out! If you wish to contact them you can find them at www.otracosa.info or e-mail them at info@otracosa.info.
safe travels!
