I have been googling for airline safety but, als, can't find a definitley lists of accident-proned. Apparently, bans are as far as it goes. IATA doesn't publish anything.
But doesn't the public have a right to know????
On the BBc's site, they mention planes Switzerland and UK banned after the Flash air 737 crash over Egypt's Red Sea (Sharm el-Sheik) -

Here is the link
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3379773.stm

For recent airline disasters

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/2008892.stm

The article names soviet planes.I have riden on Blue Panorama's Air Cubana. shaky but how are we to know?

Swiss list:
irlines with banned planes
Silk Way (Azerbaijan/Belgium)
Flash Airlines (Egypt)
Hemus Air (Bulgaria)
Jr Executive (Lebanon/USA)
Premium Air Shuttle (Nigeria)
Dniproavia (Ukraine)
GIR Jet (Spain)

Uk's Blacklist

Banned airlines
Star Air (Sierra Leone)
Air Universal (Sierra Leone)
Cameroon Airlines
Albanian Airlines
Central Air Express (DR Congo)

But no Western plane companies.
Due to deregulation, American small carriers were on a list a long time ago...Florida Everglade company. Amtrak has a long list of derailments.

I recall they claim Quantas was the safest in a hollywood movie- RAin Man or Sleepless in Seatle?
I heard that best central American planes are Guatamala's Aviteca but how about Mexicana?
I want to know Mexicana's report card.Part of the Star alliance but that doesn't say much.

This is a good link for airline safety. There are also statistics for fatalities by model and how to tackle fear of flying.
