Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help me... I have a few questions related to Heparin - with specific reference to going through Bangkok airport...

1) Just wondered if anyone has ever come into Thailand with a syringe of Heparin in their hand and or hold luggage? The one I am referring to is like a pre prepared one if you know what I mean!

2) Also I wondered if anyone has had the experience of carrying it round with them whilst in a hot location? Heprain does not have to be kept in a fridge - but does have to be kept to around 25degrees..

3) If it was lost or stolen - how easy do you think it would be to get a replacement shot - in paticular bearing in mind that I would want to use my own needles? If so - where did you get in from and was it straight fwd or a palava?!

4) If you took Heprain prior to flying from Bangkok - was it possible to do it after you had checked in but not yet gone through security? I have been to Bangkok on a number of occasions but we are talking 6 years ago and was never really looking out for place eg. toilets where you can sit down to privatley inject yourself in the stomach?! I was advised not to take it prior to arrival at the airport just in case flights were delayed.

5) Has anyone taken it through security in their hand luggage - did you have any hassle? If I were to go through to security and have it confiscated then basically I would be stuffed!

I ask these questions because...due to a DVT (bought on my bed rest after an accident) five years ago I now have to take a jab of Heparin when I go on a long haul flight - as well as the other precautions...

Because of this I have avoided long haul flights... however this year I threw caution to the wind and went to the Dominican Republic to get married. After checking in, went to the walk in clinic at Manchester Airport to get supervised when injecting it as this was the first time - It was a lot easier than I thought. On my way back I took it after we checked in and before security and left the syringe in a mini sharps box in the bin in the loo. I didn't want to carry it through security - I am not sure how I would deal with this departing Bangkok. I had and will again have a letter from my doctor, copy of the script, original packaging etc.

Because I obviously dealt with this ok as soon as we got back I decided that I had wasted to much time in the last few years being restricted to locations of four hours and under and wanted to get that sorta chaotic theme back in to my hard earned breaks and we booked to go to Thailand.

If anyone has any experience of dealing with the above or any sugesstions I would really apreciate it.

Many thanks
