I'm looking for travel insurance that will cover me on a year-long (minimum) trip. I've just returned to the UK from living abroad and will be setting out on a RTW trip in a month or so. Both Boots and the Rough Guide insurance policy require you to have lived in the UK for at least six months -- and the YHA (Columbus) insurance company specifies a year -- before they'll provide cover. I'm also 37 years old. Can anyone recommend a travel insurance company?

Hi NoBob

Try http://www.aardvarktravel.net/travel/travel+insurance.htm

I signed up for an annual policy with Insure & Go prior to my recent honeymoon, and I've since chatted to the owner there. They seem like a nice crowd.

If you use a search engine on the net and type in top travel insurance it comes up with the best companies. I was thinking of using STA travel or Sainsburys.

I've checked out loads of policies as a course of finding the best ones for my website, and as a budget pick, I think Insure and Go are best. The good thing is that their most basic package (Bronze) has the same amount of cover as the Gold package in terms of dangerous sports etc.
The only difference is that you pay an excess (£120) if you need to claim and you don't get luggage cover or personal money loss with the Bronze package. Only other omission is that skydiving is not included on any package.
But if you can live with that, it's a very good allrounder. I've spoken with them on the phone and it was a pretty good service too - I didn't have to wait long to speak to a real person as opposed to an automated system, and they were very helpful with my many queries and requests.
Hope this helps you out.

Richard

For our last four or so trips, we've used Egg's travel insurance. It's very comprehensive, can be booked on-line, and is a fraction of the cost of many other companies. You can tailor it to your own requirements regarding length of stay as well so you only pay for what you need. Check it out on www.egg.com

Hi Bob, I´m having the same situation as you with regards insurance. Did you ever find a suitable company. I´m finding al least one thing in every agencies small print that disqualifies me. Maybe I´m being to ´to the letter´on all this? I´m returning to South America next week (28 feb 06) and any help would be appreciated.

I'm also at the stage when I'm starting to look for travel insurance for my 6 - 12 month trip.

I would be careful if any 'disqualify' you as you say, as the insurance company will take any opportunity not to pay up should you need to claim.

I need to find a policy that will also sufficiently cover items such as digital camera etc. Any suggestions are welcome!

Dan.
