I'm going to Jordan (and of course Petra) in two weeks. I heard that Petra can get really crowded with tourists sometimes. Is that also the case in june or is that a calmer month than april-may?
My wife and I visited Jordan & Egypt in Feb/March of this year and put our travel journal for that trip on our website: www.evcal.org Suggest you take a look at the "Jordan and Egypt Feb/March 2006" section of our website, especially the pages titled "Amman to Petra" and "Petra".
When we were in Petra in early March it was quite crowded but it probably is throughout the year. It definitely is a site well worth visiting. Suggest you try to get to the archaeological site as early in the morning as possible, when it is less crowded and cooler.

Just got back from Jordan... We had Petra practically to ourselves!! We were there on a saturday (june 10th) and entered the Siq at about 9am and we didn't see or hear anyone on our way to Al-Kazneh. Some locals told us that it was because of the World Cup...
