Thinking of taking the Fezbus in Turkey in June - just wondering if anyone out there had taken this route and what you thought of it.

Yes I took it and it's an excellent way to see the country...

I did a 3 week tour of Turkey last September...it is a stunning country, amazingly beautiful (especially Cappadochia, which is unique and unlike any where on earth!) and wonderful people. Here are some quick basic links for you...

  • for hostels and budget accomodation, see Hostel World - Hostels in Turkey
  • for the Back-Packer oriented tours see Fez Bus Tours - very useful !

  • for amazing 3 or 4 day cruises (from €25 per DAY !) from places like Fethiye (South Coast) around the islands to Olympos, see
  • Blue Yacht Cruises
  • V-GO Boat Cruises, Turkey
  • In Olympos I stayed at Saban Pension Treehouses, but Kadirs is also highly recommended!

Book your hostel in Istanbul before arrival (I recommed the Sultan or Orient Youth Hostel from Istanbul Hostels - dorms from around €7 per night!) and they will probably collect you from the airport in their free shuttle bus!

The hostel is just a few doors down on the same street as the Fez Bus office so it's really easy to jump on the Fez bus when it leaves...

Here are some great places you will be able to visit on the Fez bus tour:

(one thing, make sure you tell the guide/offsider on the Fez bus that for Gallipoli, you want to stay at TJ's in Eceabat over the other side of the bay - if you call ahead, they'll meet you at the ferry terminal - believe me, it's worth it to get the best out of your tour of Gallipoli if you stay there and get the tour by Kenan - pronounced Canon!)

  • Istanbul (obviously !)

  • Gallipoli - stay at TJ's Hostel in Eceabat! Web site Tel: 90 286 814 3121 info@anzacgallipolitours.com - And ask for the tour of the battlefield by Kenan (pronounced Canon, yes Canon, like the camera !) - he is a world renowned historian and expert on the Gallipoli Campaign!

  • Ephasus / Selcuk
  • Pamukkale, Troy and Hierapolis ruins
  • Saklikent Gorge - a fantastic natural wonder (a moutain split in 2 by an earth quake !)
  • Fethiye (can pick up good boat / gulet cruises here!) and Oludenez beach (where they filmed the Blue Lagoon movie, and the best place in the world for Paragliding !!)
  • Olympos (that's where the famous Treehouses are!)
  • Lake Egirdir
  • Cappadochia & Goreme (this is the place for a balloon flight, but they're not cheap!)
  • Mt Nemrut and that region

    I hope this is helpful,

have you got your LP or Rough Guide or Lets Go guidebook yet?

    Don't miss Cappadochocia !!!

    Happy Trails
