Hi

Has anyone travelled on the hydrofoil between Aswan and Abu Simble, or is it more time – friendly to fly? Hw long does it take and how long did you spend at the site if the option is taken as a day tour from Aswan ?

Thanks

I wasn't aware that there was a hydrofoil when we were there in 2002. Is it a new thing? Sounds pretty good to me.

We went by coach from Aswan to Abu Simbel. Fairly painless and we got more time at AS than some friends who flew there on the same day. Possible advantages of coach - you get to see a desert sunrise - and of course the desert, which to some people is probably quite a big deal. Seats are bigger, so you can sleep. Disadvantage - about 6 hours in total, in a coach, there and back. When we went the coaches were not jam-packed so it was quite comfortable.

Our Luxor-Abu Simbel trip report can be found on our website, www.avengerpenguins.com . Mostly aimed at people interested in birds and wildlife, it has travel info for a variety of places in most of the reports.

Have a good time. Abu Simbel is fascinating, although I though the Aswan/Philae area more interesting over all.
