Hi, I am planning a RTW trip and just wanted any advice as to how much I need to save. I am going for a minimum of 6 months and plan to cover Thailand, Oz and Nz plus short stops in Fiji, cook Islands and LA. Not a strict budget as I plan to have nights out drinking/meals and also to do some adventure activites such as sky diving. Plus I am going with my boyfriend so we would prefer to have private rooms in hostels at times!

Considering what you wrote - going out now and then, private rooms, activities - and the fact that you're going to some expensive locations, I'd budget no less than US$9000. That's $50 a day for six months.

I'd be more inclined to say $10,000 to $12,000 for a 6 month period. Of course, you could always get by on less if you worked as you travelled...
