Can anyone suggest any tried and tested accommodation in Hong Kong? We will be staying for a week in March 06.

You can do worse than the YMCA which is in a great spot next to the Peninsula hotel and also a short walk to the Star ferry terminal. Rooms are fine and they have a cafe on the lower ground floor where you can eat reasonably well and cheaply.
Catch the train in from the airport and the free hotel shuttle from the train station will drop you(nearly)outside too. Buy an Octopus card at the airport information desk, you can use it to pay for the train, the ferry, peak tram and even food! If you have any money on it when you leave you can cash it in. If you want to go a bit more up market the Regal Kowloon is nice and you can go for a stroll along the walkway each night and watch the sunset on the fantastic Island skyline. If you have a fortune to spend stay at the Peninsula or the Shangri la! |

I stayed at the Metro Park Hotel in Causeway Bay earlier this year (booked in advance through a travel agent). It's a nice place but definitely not a budget hotel! Whatever you do, avoid the infamous Chungking Mansions in Kowloon.
