Hi there just some thoughts , you said that you were'nt planning yet, well having done it i would suggest that you start planning soon as there are a lot of things to do if you plan on going to a lot of countries. But i suppose you have taken the right initial step by joining a forum like this, as one of the best things to do is to talk to people who have done it or at least some of it.If you're unsure about any aspect then ASK. I'm planning on doing it again in 2007/8 as long as i can get some cash together. You never know we might bump into each other (its a small world) cheers Jackal........ps can you write in english rather than text speak as i'm sure you'l get more replies!!!!!!!!

I'm planning also on going travelling, for about 15 months in April 2007, just need to save the money first.

Are there particular places or activities your interested in doing? Do you want to spend a long time in each place/country, or only spend a short time in each place. Deciding these things will help shape your travel plans.

I would probably look at the posts on forums like this one, bootsnall, lonely planet and travellerspoint as you can get some ideas just from what other people are doing.
Also look at some travel guides, if you want to travel on a tight budget 'Lonely Planets (e.g. S.E.Asia or South America, etc) on a shoestring' are a good place to start, especially for routing, weather, etc. Also 'rough guides first time round the world' for the planning side.

Happy planning
Rach

Hi Tom,

I've created a website specifically for new travellers that gives ideas on where to go, what to take and how to avoid the various scams and pitfalls along the way.

Check out The Travel Monkey.

Comments/suggestions welcome!

Hi,

Im going travelling for the first time in 2007 as well. I really would start planning now if I was you.. me and my friends have been planning since 2005 and we have changed destinations e.g. a lot so the sooner you start planning and saving money the better. I have found a lot of help on this forum and also these 2 sites -

www.thisistravel.co.uk
www.expedia.co.uk

I also found the foriegn office website very helpful.
