I am thinking of taking a year out and travelling round the world, but having very little backpacking experience, I was wondering:
how many countries on average can you fit into (without rushing or cramming) a year round the world? regardless of cost/plane ticket.
Because I'd like to have an idea of where I want to go before I go into a travel agents, but I really have no idea how many countries I could realistically visit.
If any of you have actually been on a round-the-world trip, how many countries/places did you visit and for how long on average?

It depends very much on the countries that you go to. Somewhere like China would require lots of time, while Belgium for instance would not. If you are in a place and are happy to stay and feel that you are benefitting from being there then stay. A good estimate I think would be to allow around one month for each country.
