According to http://www.passportstamp.com the record is 196 -- which is verging on silly.

I've been to 48, which I think is pretty good considering. How about you guys?

Well, I thought I was well-travelled but I can only claim 38 countries, about two-thirds of them in Europe. I won't bore you with the list.

I'm intrigued at the person who claims 196 countries, as I thought the total number of countries in the world is slightly fewer than that.

It depends on how you count the countries, be they the UN list or the UN list plus certain places that are sovereign (believe that is right word) states and not really official countries.

I've been to:

Canada: Vancouver, Whistler, and many islands on the coast

USA: WA, CA, AZ, OR, NB, IA, WA DC, TX, HI, NV.

Spain: Valencia, Alicante, Granada, Seville, Ronda, Cadiz

Italy: Rome, Naples and Sorrento

Croatia: Zagreb, Split, Hvar, Korcula, Dubrovnik

Bosnia: Sarajevo

England: London, Bath, York, Bedale, Northallerton, Wells, Oxford, Greenwich

Wales: Monmouth

Scotland: Edinburgh, St Andrews

I should say that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are considered to be part of the United Kingdom. So the country for those is of course the UK lol

Have we all got time on our hands or what. My list doesn't have the quantity but I think another interesting list would include how long you were in these countries as this would give us all an idea of how long we have managed to avoid working. Anyway here's my list with long or short stays marked.

UK Too long
USA 5 Times - 3 transit
Bahamas Too much Bacardi and grass
Peru 4 Times - got married
Bolivia 3 months
Chile 3 times - 3 months
Argentina Twice - 3 months
Brazil 2 months - Beautiful girls
Venezuela 2 months - ditto
Colombia 1 month - Nasal problems
Paraguay About 4ish hours
Dutch Antilles Transit - twice
France Loads
Spain 6 months - soon permanent
Italy 2 days
Germany 1 week
Austria ditto
Switzerland A bit longer
Holland Stoned
Andorra 1 day - its enough
India 1 Year
Nepal 3 months
Bangladesh poor fuckers
Sri Lanka 1 month
Morrocco 1 month ish - Chefchuan

When I was in Argentina I met a British guy who was at the end of a RTW and had been overland to South Africa to start with. More or less 4 months sat on trains. He then flew to Thailand and went overland to Aus. He then flew to US and went overland to Argentina (He took a plain from Panama to Colombia). I can't remember exactly how many countries but it was in the Thirties or Forties I think, all in one year. He was knackered. What is the most in one year, and why? Nick was great fun but could barely remember where he had been. His passport looked good though.
