Hi,

Im afraid Germany or Greece is not considered as eastern europe.
Poland is.

If you want to see eastern europe go and visit Poland,Hungary,Slovakia and Czech Republic.

bye

If you want to visit Eastern Europe for 2-3 weeks I suggest going to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Austria (not strictly-speaking in Eastern Europe, but its close by and really worth a visit). Do not miss :

Prague (Czech Rep) ;
Bratislava (Slovakia) - a very underrated place ;
Vienna (Austria) - just over the Danube River from Bratislava ;
Salzburg (Asutria) - if you have time, its a 3-4 hour train ride from Vienna ;
Budapest (Hungary).

There are other places in these countries as well, but you'd be better off not rushing. I haven't been there over New Year, but I would guess there would be a massive New Year's eve street party on the Charles Bridge in Prague.

Bulgaria, Romania. Moldova, Ukraine.
All are great - for two-three weeks I recommend Moldova and Romania

i beg to differ my friend. when the berlin wall ceased to exist so did the idea of 'west of the wall' the iron curtain, and hence 'east europe'ie the old communist states -poland hungary chezecholavsia(i've even forgotten how to spell it)etc who are are busying themselves with intergation into the EC. i tested this thoery on my 9 year old nephew and yes he regarded turkey as an eastern europe country simply because asia starts there.

Hi poggle,
Looks like you should brush up on your knowledge of Europe.
FYI - the correct spelling is Czechoslovakia (reading your spelling I wonder whether you knew how to pronounce it at all!). This country doesn't exist any more - since 1993. It is 2 countries now - Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
I come from the CR and I assure you - we are not busying ourselves with integration in EU, we have been members for 3 years (and so have Slovaks, Hungary and Poland).
