Hey!
Welcome to the forum, i have a few suggestions for your trip to scotland. Firstly Edinburgh should be top of yor list for places to visit, it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. You should then perhaps think about Fife which is only a short drive from Edinbugh, St Andrews is here and well worth seeing. Then you may want to think about heading north to Inverness and exloring either Loch Ness or Glencoe both of which offer amazing scenary. Some useful websiteto help plane your trip are below Public Transport Planner Accommodation in Scotland Edinburgh Information |

I'd agree. I've been to Edinburgh a few times and it's a fantastic city.
There's a good list of Things To Do on TheTravelEditor.com. You might also want to consider short cruise "Scottish Style" from Oban (famous for it's fine whiskey) or a 2 day journey on The Royal Scotman so that you get a chance to see the fantastic scenery of Scotland. |

I live in Edinburgh, work in Glasgow, and love the whole of Scotland... so I'd say it depends on what you're looking for.
Two things definitely not to miss are Edinburgh and some sort of trip to the Highlands/West Coast. In Edinburgh, try the various museums/national galleries. Get yourself deliberately lost in the complex narrow alleys of the Old Town. Climb the Scott Monument for a great view (or Salisbury Craggs or Arthur's Seat if you're energetic). In terms of the Highlands and West Coast, I think the most common mistake is to identify the biggest towns there as the main tourist attractions. Places like Inverness, Oban, Fort William and Mallaig are just functional (and often ugly) towns. The real attraction is all the nice bits in between..! The hidden gems include islands like Mull, Islay, Raasay and Colonsay, or on the mainland, places like Ardnamurchan or Port Appin. I'd say give yourself 2 weeks. Then you can also visit Highland Perthshire, Deeside, Rothiemurchas (nr Aviemore), go dolphin watching at Fortrose, see St Andrews in Fife and visit Glasgow for a day and a night (no more..!). Enjoy! |

Don't know if this is a bit late, but I really wanted to jump in and give you some advice.
What to see, what to see? Edinburgh’s got loads of big-name sights – from the National Museum of Scotland to its cracking Castle. A personal favorite of mine, though, has always been to climb to the top of Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park. A ‘sight’ in the truest sense of the word! On the accommodation front, HostelBookers have a good range of affordable Edinburgh hostels . The last time I was up there, I stayed at Castle Rock Backpackers, and it was central (with great views of the castle!) and came in at just the right price. A friend of mine who lives out in Leith (to the northeast) took me to a great place called daniel's for dinner. Nice warehouse setting, and really good food that wasn’t out of this world expensive by any means. There were also a fair number of other good places to eat to choose from out in Leith, and prices seemed to be a bit less expensive than in the city center. Hope I’m not too late. Have a great time! |

Hi there,
I hope this isn't too late for you, but I just read a great blog post on the Highlands of Scotland: HostelBloggers in the Highlands Loch Ossian certainly seems like an off the beaten track sort of destination! Good luck! |
