Hi, I am currently in Saint Petersburg for school. I have never been in this city, which is told to be wonderful. After checking out the city centre with different tourist spots I can totally agree. If you would come to SP, I have a few tips:

I live in a student hostel. Make sure you make good arrangements with the management before you get there, because prices may get extraordinary high if they think you have money.

Vodka is usually very cheap, and the beer is tasty too. Watch out, though, when you walk down the streets when you are intoxicated, because cricked cops may take advantage and ask for money. Although every "fine" is negociable, you should always pay them something. Some students here have nasty stories of maltreatment by the police, so watch out.

Women are readily available, but most likely they will show more interest in your wallet than in your smile. Try not to get involved in something that may get you into trouble.

Must try: borsch (soup), the subway, bars like Marstall or Golden Dolls (expensive!)

Basically, http://www.inyourpocket.com/russia/en/ will give you a good idea of what's going on is this amazing city. It's an excellent guide, funny but damn serious too. A free download is available on the website, but you will also receive your copy in any of the city's most prominent hotels.

See you when u get there

Tom B.
