If you're intent on seeing cities, give Barcelona a try. Get an apartment for a few nights (try oh-barcelona.com or similar sites) as it's usually cheaper than most hotels and enoy one of the most wonderful cities in the world (no I haven't been to all of them).

There are adequate beaches 10 minutes walk from the city centre, great art, superb buildings and wonderful places to eat and drink. For a taste of the countryside, get the train and tram (and maybe the cable car if you can work out how the tickets work) to Montserrat and make sure you take the two hour track to the top of the mountain. And don't miss the amazing mercury fountain in the Fundacio Miro.

ok ladies...

here is a short list of cities you should consider:

  • Amsterdam - Holland
  • Berlin & Munich - Germany
  • Rome - Italy
  • Florence & Venice - Italy
  • Dubrovnik - Croatia
  • Barcelona & Madrid (with day trips to Toledo, Salamanca) - Spain
  • Vienna & Salzburg - Austria
  • Ghent & Bruges - Belgium

If you're not too far away on 22nd June, and like partying, celebrating, torchlit processions and fireworks, then don't miss the Grand Duke's Birthday/National Day festival in Luxembourg which is well worth a couple of days...

make sure you stay in Hostels - you'll meet loads of other travellers and it'll really make a difference to your travel experience....

Hostels
European Rail Travel Planner
Buses all over the place
Whats On When - Events and Festivals you can enjoy in europe...

also, make sure you buy the Rough Guide to Europe and Lonely Planet - Europe on a Shoestring Guide!

Happy Trails

Why not consider going to Santorini? The Greek Islands are fantastic in June, not yet too crowded but full of interesting places and people. You might even be able to get a cheap charter flight from Zurich or Paris or Rome.
