I found the brilliant link showing a slide show on Naxos - http://travel.webshots.com/slideshow/552001505EYxVYT and I so want to go! The last time I visited the Cyclades was backpacking -Sifnos in 1974 and none of the other mainstream places in Greece have been as memorable.

This time I am taking my daughters ages 12 and 14 for 1 week at May half-term next year - one of them has an allergic reaction to seawater so that is why I need a pool! I am looking at St Georges or Anna Studio at Agios Prokopis. Is it easy to get around from Agios Prokopis? If I choose Anna Studios Thomson do a package there.

Also what is the best way to book - if not a package, then how do you get to Naxos from UK?
Is it easier to fly direct to another nearby island and then catch a ferry?

Hope that's not too many questions!

Ooop - Thomsons don't do a package there - it is Anna's studios in Thassos!

If I were you I would do an individual trip too.
Have a look at this page. I only know the keyword for this one, but don't worry - with a few clicks you will end up at you destination, as I know they are offering whole Europe toreasonable prices.

Hope you have fun, Reisewuermchen

tecjunkie, I know the guy who did those shots -- and he does an album like that every year. May is a terrific time to take your kids to Naxos-- and a lot of us find Naxos so delightful BECAUSE it doesn't have those darn charter-flights from UK or those all-inclusive resorts (sorry, but u must know how others hate the package mobs who seem only to want sun, sand and beer at cheapest price possible and don't care a fig for the GReek experience.I avoid all UK package sites).

You can get a "studio" with kitchenette & balcony on beach (without pool) for 30E per nite in May...but pools cost more. However food is cheap! in Naxos & u can picnic half the time and self-cater.There are no direct flights to Naxos, but I think there are to Paros & it's only a 45-minute ferry ride, about 6-7 ferries per day in May.

Here are a couple of good sites for budget accommodations on all the Naxo beaches --

If you want good info on Naxos re individual travel and lodging bargains, I suggest you post on Fodor's Forum and LP's Thorn Tree asking for ideas, and being SPECIFIC about the week you are going AND what your budget limit per night or week for lodging is. If u stay in st. GEorge, your teenagers can be more independent because they can walk to/from Naxos Town in 5 minutes .. if u stay at Prokopios, one needs to take a bus.

Lots of families come to Naxos, it's very family-friendly, lots of Scandinavians. My first trip I meant to stay 2 days, stayed 6... I've been to Greece 7 times and Naxos is the only place that's ALWAYS on my itinerary.
