I am travelling to Lugano next month and I'd like some advice on finding an inexpensive hotel that is close to (walking distance) to the Palazzo dei Congressi. Any recommendations?

Your best options are Hotel Pestalozzi or Hotel Zurigo (no website, but google it for some info). Both are modest, family-run places in the centre of Lugano - clean, decent, good-value, two-star level. The Pestalozzi is one minute's walk from the Congress Centre, just across a piazza; the Zurigo is five mins away.

Lugano's official tourism website is HERE - it's good. Well worth looking at.

As are the 'Rough Guide to Switzerland' or 'Rough Guide to the Italian Lakes', both of which have full coverage of Lugano!

Enjoy - it's a beautiful city.
