promotes Ecotourism in the area of Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve.



This Nature Reserve is located only about 30 Km from the Portuguese capital, Lisboa, where the Tagus River meets the Atlantic Ocean.



The Tagus Estuary is the biggest estuary in Portugal, and one of the most important in all Europe. It has been declared a Natura 2000 site as result of the European Bird’s Directive. It´s classified as an International IBA – Important Bird Area, according to Birdlife International criteria, and is an International Wetland Zone based on RAMSAR’s Convention criteria.



It’s communities of aquatic birds are one of the most important of all Europe.



AMBIFUGA’s products, in the Tagus Estuary, are mainly:



1) Tours by van in the Nature Reserve area and Natura 2000 site



- tours are guided by a licensed Nature Field Guide with real Knowledge of the area

- duration of about half a day (aprox. 3 hours)

- opportunity to contact several natural and human habitats of the area (the river, salt production areas – “Salinas”, marshes, large cultivated fields – “Lezírias”, …)

- opportunity to observe some of the more typical bird species

- opportunity to contact with Nature and relax from the city environment

- price: 25 euro / pax



2) Birdwatching activities



- contact with the typical birds of the Natura 2000 site of Tagus Estuary

- promotion of activities for the least experienced – “introduction” to Birdwatching

- guided tours in the Reserve for the more experienced Birdwatchers

- prices vary much according to the requests of the client (number of people, objective of the tour, etc.)



3) Walking and biking tours



- we also promote some biking and walking tours, in Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve and Natura 2000 site (some are still in process of licensing)





AMBIFUGA is licensed by the General Tourism Directorate as tourist operator in the modalities of pedestrian tours, biking tours and paddling – License DGT n.º 25/2003.



Adding, AMBIFUGA is the first and, at the moment, only company licensed for operating, as promoter of Nature tourism, in the area of Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve – license n.º 1 RNET 1 / 2004.
