I am looking for a secluded beach spot somewhere in the Caribbean. At the end of August/beginning of September, I plan to spend a week somewhere far from tourist development and travelers, where I could rent a bungalow and feel that I've really escaped. Any recommendations?

Right down by Venezuela, T&T are often overlooked and have some fantastic deserted beaches; in Trinidad, Petit Tacarib is reachable only by boat or your feet, though there's one guesthouse. Leatherback turtles lay their eggs in the sand - huge, wide swathe of yellow sand, with a gorgeous waterfall just inland. Also in Trini, Grand Riviere is a bit more developed, but is right at the end of the north coast road (which doesn't cover the whole of the north coast - hence Petit Tacarib being so remote). Lovely river at GR; great rainforest with lots of waterfalls for swimming in, and a very friendly community.
Tobago is more developed, but still has perfect undeveloped stretches such as Englishman's Bay as well as places with a few guesthouses - try Castara. Plus, both islands are some of the cheapest in the Caribbean. All this detailed in the Rough Guide to T&T, of which I'm co-author! Hope this helps.
