I and 3 female friends were viciously attacked and a serious sexual assault also took place. We were in privately rented accomodation. We took it to be an opportunist and unlucky experience as we were told this never happens in Tobago. We have now found out that this has happened before and naturally Tobago relies heavily on Tourism so the authorities are keen to mke light of it. We feel it is important that people are aware that although it is a beautiful paradise that you do have to be very security aware if you chose to stayputside a hotel facility. These men did not want money, they came with machetes and masks and were prepared for violence and took almost nothing in the way of money, cameras etc.
The police were and been unhelpful, to a point that they have lied and removed vital parts of the statements we gave them about the incident and we are now pursuing this to make people aware if nothing else.
