Anyone who wants to experience the mountainous interior of Puerto Rico might want to consider staying at Hotel La Casa Grande in Utuado. I stayed there recently and loved it. It's in a really beautiful and quiet area that's pretty close to some popular sights (Taino ruins, caves) and has a great restaurant. Don't miss the ice cream shop in nearby Lares. It offers homemade flavors that include Cod Fish, Sweet Potato and Rice and Chicken (as well as the usual variety).
