Hi,
I am interested in visiting Curacao within the next year and was hoping for some information. I have done quite a bit of research on the island and there seems to be quite alot to do. Has anyone been recently who can give me a few tips? Any help would be much appreciated. Martin www.travelllama.com |

Hi Martin,
My family and I just visited Curacao a couple of weeks ago. Are you looking for a lush, green island? Curacao isn't like that. Honestly if you don't mind an arid island populated with cacti it'll be great. There were some nice beaches but we weren't awed by them. The sand is white but there are alot of washed up coral and there are rocky parts. Also the water may be shallow near the shore and then drop off a bit suddenly. Last year we visited Cancun and found the beaches there to be awesome. There are a few museums but nothing you can't see in a couple of days. The Kura Hulanda Hotel in Willemstad has a very nice museum onsite. The buildings are built on the square they used to sell slaves. The mustem has a great exhibition about slavery in the Caribbean and it's both fascinating and moving. |

Hi Marten,
First of all it depends on how long you’re going to stay. Curacao can offer you a lot of different things like; Unique architecture: 17th and 18th century Dutch colonial buildings in bright colors. And the historical plantation houses around the island. The 16 floating pontoon boats supporting the “Pontoon Bridge “ also named the “Swinging Old Lady”, this bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda districts (No vehicles permitted). And the Queen Juliana bridge, 185 feet above the sea level, will give you the total view of Punda and Otrabanda (only vehicles). Diving and snorkeling: one of the best things to do. Curaçao's underwater world is very nice. You must see it for yourself. Beaches: Clear blue water and white sand, Porto Marie, Knip, Cas Abou. Sailing/ Boating: Going to Klein Curacao, a small island belonging to Curacao. Sunset-trips. Activities: A trip on an ATV around the island. Call Bike Shop: 7380027. A must do (you only need a driving license). Swimming with the dolphins at Seaquarium. Nightlife/Restaurants: Good ambience, nice people easy to socialize with (all kind of nationalities including locals) and excellent food: On walking distance from each other “Asia de Cuba” restaurant (tel# 7479009) and “Grand Café De Heeren” (tel# 7360491). Both on Thursday and Friday, live music. And the ambience will turn into a big party while sipping your mojito. People are friendly. Papiamento, Dutch, English and Spanish are mainly spoken on the island. What more…. I would say come and see for your self. |
