What can be done about the error on the site:

On this page, http://www.roughguides.com/store/books.html whenever I click the link for 'Get a FREE Rough Guides guidebook! Find out more' - which opens this page: http://travel.roughguides.com/travelclub/

there is an ADO DB (database) error message:

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0bcd'
Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record.

/travelclub/inc/incTravelClub.asp, line 103

So how do we get our free book then? I am certain that a huge multinational publisher like RoughGuides would maintain their website, so as we can sitll see the link, that MUST mean the offer is still open right?

So why do we always get that stupid error message?

I am a programmer myself, so I know exactly what the problem is, and how easy it is to resolve it!

And I won't even mention the ridiculous timeout errors that we get on step 2 of Registraion...

Any danger of someone reading this do you think?

If we're going to talk about bugs - there is also the one on "guide rankings." Admittedly it's not very important but why don't they just fix it.

As far as anyone (ie admin) seeing this and doing something about I can only say don't hold your breath.

Thank you both very much for spotting those errors. We will be taking steps to correct them.

That being said, we'd like to open up a contest of sorts, similar to the "Help Us Update" feature in our printed guidebooks.

If you find a bug/error on our website (with the site's operation itself, NOT the content), please continue to let us know, by posting on this thread of the message board. We will select the best posts from the lot, and award those users with a free Rough Guide of their choice (limit one free book per user).

As for the Free book offer on our catalog page, that offer is no longer active, and we thank you for spotting that and bringing it to our attention. And, as your post was well thought out and informative, you've won the first Rough Guide!
