Has anybody out there been to Belarus and or Russia recently. i have a trip planned in June of this year. I will be bike (push bike) touring with camping gear etc and wanted to find out anything I could about road quality (what kind of tire should I run?), mosquitoes (it's a swampy, marshy country), quality of the water from lakes/rivers for drinking, access to camping sites... Also, I'm female, Jewish and gay, none of which seem to be very well looked upon by the authorities. Anybody with any of these identites been there? How discrete and careful should one be? Is it (within reason) safe to travel alone as a female? Would love to hear from anyone who has any experience in Belarus. Thanks.
