Looking for some good recommendations for gay or gay friendly hotels in san fran.. partner and I planning a trip in mid July from London.

Ideally like boutique hotels, small and friendly and central location..less in need of being located in the gay centre or close to clubs etc, getting too old for that now! Any recommendations weblinks appreciated

You didn't mention price range, so I'll just toss a few at you.

Generally the Kimpton Hotels are good and there are a number of them here in SF. http://www.kimpton.com/ one of theirs is Hotel Palomar is in a bustling location and centrally located - it is known as a great place to stay and it's beautiful from the outside. Hotel Triton isn't too far away (but more of a walk to transportation) and has a great cafe at its base and is adjacent to Chinatown.

I know you said being near gay areas is less important, but the Parker Guest House is a terrific B&B here in the Castro. It's within walking distance of the bars and has easy access to public transportation. I'd recommend it if you are into B&Bs. http://www.parkerguesthouse.com/
