Have just returned from a week at the Grand Resort Hotel, and when delayed for 24 hours, had the occasion to stay at the Sofitel overnight.

I,m really glad that I didn't take on board what the book said about both hotels....
It refers to the Grand Resort as 'faded' and the Sofitel as 'the best hotel in town.'

Not So!

Our accommodation was a Junior suite and it was amazing!!! over 40 foot long, with a veranda ovelooking the pool and then another double room with a covered veranda.
It was spotless, nicely decorated and I thought deserving of its star status but not the comment of being 'faded'!!! Swimming pools are being refurbished. One was complete and clients were placed away from the works.
The service was superb and so was the food and the facilities at the sister hotel, 'The grand' across the road.

When we had to stay at the Sofitel, the room was dirty and not just for that particular occasion. You could tell from the dirty paintwork and the standard of the rooms linen, unwashed table etc.
At breakfast time, you could eat outside, but all the table edges were chipped.
The food was good though...

I just think that it's maybe time for a new visit Roughguide to re assess!!!
