Hello all. Just got back from Tokyo and stayed unfortunately at a hotel mentioned in the Rough Guide for Japan(2004?). Stay away from New Koyo. It is a dive, dirty, and disgusting and an embarrasment for foreign visitors and should be an embarrasment to the owner. The tatami mat had a big dirty footprint right in the middle, the curtain was torn, the walls and doors dirty and grimy, the place a total horror show. It was a former flop house for laborers and evidently the owners haven't changed it much. It's cheap but I wouldn't stay there if it was FREE. K's House just opened in June 1st, it is spotless and clean and friendly and not much more money and is run by K, who has traveled a lot and wanted to WELCOME travelers. There's a kitchen , internet, places to talk,hang out.. Sorry Rough Guide. You need to include K's house in your new additions and throw out New Koyo.K also have a place in Kyoto and Hakuba, Nagano. http://kshouse.jp/index_e.html

Many thanks for your comments on the New Koyo guesthouse. I'm sorry you had such a disappointing experience, though we do warn people this place is a flophouse in the guide.

However, we will deffinitely review the entry when we update the guide next year.

And we will certainly take a look at K's House - if it's anything like their place in Kyoto it should be excellent.
