I would like to recommend an independent tour guide I met in Sarajevo called Amir Telibechirowich. As well as being a tour guide, Amir is also a freelance journalist and has the direct experience of living in Sarajevo during the siege of 1992 - 1995.
Amir conducts bespoke walking tours with no fixed time limit (and which have been known in some cases to last up to 11 hours)! The tours are accompanied by a commentary based on Amir's extensive knowledge of the history of Bosnia, and particularly of Sarajevo from its establishment in mediaeval times, through the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian occupations, during the seige of 1992 - 1995 and up to the present day. The tours visit the majority of Sarajevo's contemporary and historic sights, including the largest war cemetaries, the old quarter Turkish bazaar and mosques, and the Orthodox and Catholic churches. This is one of the most unique and interesting tours of its type that I have done. It is an excellent way to see the City as it exists today and to learn about the political, religious and cultural heritage of Sarajevo and of Bosnia Herzegovina. Amir can be reached on walteraga@yahoo.com or by telephone on 00387 61 304 966. His website is http://www.ddh.nl/org/poo/lunjo/citytour.htm and he can take individuals or groups. |
