We have returned recently from wonderful two weeks in Bulgaria, accompanied by the 2005 edition of Rough Guide to the country. We have spotted a few inaccuracies in it; while not stopping us from having a good time, we hope we can save others some time by pointing them out.
pp. 151-152: The area code for Bansko has been changed to 07498 (from 07443). In Bansko we stayed at a very pleasant B&B we are happy to recommend: Hotel Martin, phone 07498/8301 or mobile 0898533733. The facility is tastefully renovated, has a glass shower stalls (!) and serves a healthy breakfast, all for 70Lv for the two of us. The owner and the staff were exceptionally cordial and helpful, and that says something in Bulgaria, where almost everybody is happy to help strangers out, even the policeman who stopped us for speeding... p. 339: Both the Blue Heaven Inn and the International Hostel in Plovdiv are no longer in business. Also, we had a very hard time maneuvering with a map and a car inside Plovdiv's old city: most of the roads are blocked with construction and/or parking lots. Besides, everybody is eager to help but nobody knows the street names... p. 367: The numbers for Snezhana's home in Yagodina are wrong: the home number is 030419372 and the mobile is 0887438649. The owners are very nice and, for additional 4Lv per person, will prepare a hearty traditional breakfast. Disclaimer: our trip took place at the end of September 2007, which is off-season here. Prices may be different in August. I hope this helps someone, or, better yet, gets into the new Bulgaria edition of the Rough Guide. Cheers, Ronny |
