If anyone has visited Wellington (New Zealand) you’ll know that it’s a small place. A few inner city streets are nestled between the harbour and steep hills. We love our street cafes and people throng to the open spaces on the harbour. An international arts festival, the wearable arts awards, and numerous other cultural events crowd the calendar.

However, for reasons that escape me, the majority of city council politicians want to host a steet race for v8 racing cars from 2007. Half the inner streets will be closed for the proposed race, with construction and set-up taking at least seven weeks. The relative tranquility and people friendly inncer city will be riddled with congestion, pollution, noise and disruption.

I’d be interested to know what people who have visited Wellington think about this idea? Or if you’re planning to visit, whether this would impact on your decision to visit?
