Our family of four will be going to New Zealand on a self-drive
holiday. We will be spending 22 days, driving from Christchurch to
Auckland. Can you suggest an iternerary, accommodation and car
rentals? Is a motorhome or car better for long drives during
winter?
What would you suggest?
thanks!

Motorhomes are convenient and popular. There are sites all over NZ catering to motorhome drivers. I'm not sure which option would be cheapest. Regardless of whether or not you rent a car or motorhome, be sure to book the ferry from Picton to Wellington as early as possible [Interisland ferry].

Having road-tripped through most of New Zealand, my favorite bits were the West Coast of the South Island (driving from Christchurch, be sure to stop in Wanaka [Puzzling World] and Queenstown, which is gorgeous in winter) and the Kiwi House in Otorohanga. The wonderful thing is that, if you are not scared off by cold weather, there is still so much to enjoy in New Zealand in winter.
