Ive just got back to the UK after a month out diving in Western Australia. It was only a quick visit but i wanted to mention the fantastic diving over in South West WA. I've dived on the East Coast a few times and WA is much better. Not as crowded and with some great dive sites. A couple that are not to be missed when you go there are the Swan Wreck and Busselton Jetty down in Dunsborough and Rottnest Island near Perth. It's about a 3 hour bus trip down to dunsborough, id booked into this amazing hostel down there call the Dunsborough Beach house - if you are heading that way then definately get a room there. It's right down on the beach, you can step out of your room , walk about 40 metres and your in the sea! It was being run by a lovely couple called Woz & Lisa. Cheap rooms, nice people and wicked views. They are really helpful and know loads about the area, when i asked about the diving they just didn't shut up! There are two dive shops down there anbd after going in to see both i chose to go with Bay Dive. Thanks to Davo, Dan, Eiji and the rest of the boys for making it a fantastic couple of days out. Our first day was out divng on the Swan Wreck, this is an amazing dive site, sunk about 5 or 6 years ago it's got tons of cool fish living on it and loads of corals all over. We did two dives and the second was just wicked, we got to dive all the way through from end to end. It's a 30 metre dive, quite deep but the all the guys really look after you and make sure everyone knows what the plan is and that we were all happy with it. There were only eight of us on this massive boat and we cruised out there and saw a couple of dolphins on the way. It was a bit of a cool day but the boats got plenty of protection from the wind so no-one got too cold (nice one for the hot shower Davo!), i will be coming back in the summer to try out that sundeck! If you go there, remeber to practice your backflips for the lunchtime surface interval. After a chilled out night in the hostel, Dan had organised for us to go up and see the BUsselton Jetty, we only did a single dive up there as i had to get the bs back up in the afternoon. I didn't think that i had time to go but they sorted out an early dive for us and then dropped me off at the bus stop when we'd finished. The jetty is great, it's a shallow dive, only 8 metres but there are so many fish and other creatures that i coulod have stayed there all day - wish we'd had time for 2 dives. Dan's got a great knack for finding the Cutlefish and Octopus hiding under the logs and swimming through the big schools of fish was really good fun.
Thanks again to all the crew there, my photo taken sat on a toilet at 30 metres will go up on the wall and i'll be back to see you soon
