Fellow travellers, BEWARE. We have just been ripped off by a company in Byron Bay trading on the fact that they seem a cool, hippy, local company, but let me tell you this is far from the reality. We have just been charged over $350 that we do not owe them. They said the fuel bill for half a tank was $46 dollars when it is this amount to fill the tank, that we had been smoking in the car, when we have a 9 month old baby and do not smoke! they charged us $55 dollars for that, even when it says on their own contract that's $50, that we had done almost 1000kms over our allowance and charged us over $200, wrong again, and that there was a stone chip on the front of the car, another $55 dollars, even though we signed an inventory marking out all the existing damage on this (old) car and there were already loads of stone chips and dents, which we signed to. We had to drop the car at Brisbane airport but there was noone there to check it, this being a two bit amateur operation, the guy arrived three hours after our flight had left. He said if we were worried we should take photos of the car to show there was nothing wrong with it. Very clever as we were not going to take photos of every square inch for stone chips, or of the ashtray, or of the dashboard....... They ask for a $550 pre-authority on your credit card which they say comes out of your account for the first 5 days of the rental and then goes back in - UNTRUE - they do not hold it for just 5 days. According to my credit card, there is nothing we can do as we gave them authority to take money out of credit card account if they deemed anything to be wrong, the fact that they lied does not come into it. We went with them as we wanted to support a small local business, but they are pretending they are cool, hippys, earthy as in Earth Car Rental, and they are none of these they are ruthless capitalists and charlatans who want to rip off honest travellers - us. DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY THEIR APPEARANCE, RENT FROM THEM AT YOUR PERIL, PLEASE BEWARE.
