Hi, planning to stay a couple of nights in Rotorua and am interested in these two hostels. Have any of you stayed at either and can give me any advice as to which one to go for?

I stayed at the Jolly Green voyager, I think that was the name of it, and it was great. Clean, polite, and within walking distance to the city centre. I dont know about the other two that you listed.

Hot rock backpackers and lava bar is supposed to be the best one although when we went there it was full (but that was in the summer). No shortage of places to stay in Rotorua though, even motels are fairly cheap and along with hotels run the length of Fenton street. I liked Rotorua, despite the smell!

I stayed at Base Backpackers for a night on the way to Lake Taupo. The hostel itself is ok. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm room, it wasnt that big. The beds were quite uncomfortable, but the rooms did have lockers to use, but remember to bring your own padlock. The bathrooms are shared with guys also so maybe, if they have any get a private room with your own bathroom if your prefer. The hostel has a bar, which has reasonable priced drinks. The people at reception took their time to check us in, and didnt provide any information about Rotorua. I would recommened to get more of an insight about other hostels in the town, and see what people have to say about them from this website. Hope this helps!
